Highly Rigid yet Lightweight Body/Chassis
The highly rigid Civic body and its advanced layout serves as the basis for an even more highly rigid, yet lightweight Type R body. Measures to enhance body rigidity while reducing weight have translated into a body that is 50% more rigid than in the Integra Type R production model sold between 2001 and 2006.

The hatchback brings with it two main demographics that tend to part with their cash more than anyone else in society – the very young and the very old. For the old, a shiny hatchback represents an economical, safe and pleasant way to get to and from the shops, bingo and church. The Honda Civic range has been king of the grey-haired brigade for decades and brings with it an unassuming, sensible and reliable transport solution for getting from A to B.
For young people – mostly males with fluff stuck to their upper lip, the Honda Civic and it’s hatchback rivals represent the cheapest way of getting a car, insuring it and then thrashing it to within an inch of it’s life every night in a McDonalds car park. The fun doesn’t stop there either. Since the initial conception of Max Power magazine in the early nineties, car modification has gone through the roof. Even Hollywood has got in on the act with the Fast and the Furious trilogy seeing more neon lights in cinema car parks than an Ibiza club.
Much like the punk movement, it’s the DIY aesthetic of personalising your car from a million different options and standing out from the crowd that appeals. With its bullet proof reliability and extensive catalogue of performance and styling parts, the Honda Civic has simultaneously become the favoured choice at both ends of the circle of life – but for very different reasons.
Honda aren’t stupid and having seen the mass market appeal for ‘hot hatches’ thought they’d better produce one for the British market – and thus was born the Civic Type R in 2001. Top lip fluff brigade were beside themselves with excitement. Grey haired brigade were happy with the standard issue model. Either way, Honda was onto a winner with a huge percentage of the population.
The Type R was an exceptional car too, with a 0-60mph time of 6.6 seconds and the ever-eager VTEC engine revving to 8,250rpm. Stylistically it wasn’t too different from the standard model, with 17 inch alloy wheels and a spoiler adorning the rear the main differences. It was on the road that the little Honda Civic really delighted with the Japanese firm clearly utilising their Formula One programme for the good of their hot hatch. The Civic Type R became the biggest selling performance hatchback in the noughties – with over 35,000 units sold – so it was no surprise at the 2006 British Motor Show when everyone’s legs turned to jelly when they clasped eyes on the new one.
The new Civic is all triangles and space-age – a highly risky direction change for a company happily catering for such a diverse range of customers. However Honda have always wanted to shed their image of being an old-persons car maker and the newest Civic is a styling exercise with the sole intention of keeping its young fan base and stealing the middle aged away from their Volkswagen Golfs. The Type R for the record didn’t just turn my legs to jelly at the motor show – I needed a crash team and some oxygen.
The production model is only a tad watered down from the final concept in 2006, with the body kit identical. That means that unlike the previous Civic Type R, you don’t need to check the badge to know this isn’t the base model. I don’t know where to start to be honest – seeing one will say everything I need to, as you’ll either love it or hate it. It looks as though a spaceship has crashed into the Pyramids and driven off – but for me, it works.
Crucially Honda haven’t messed with the engine, so the new Type R retains the 2.0 litre, 197bhp engine from its predecessor. Although this will of course save on Honda’s design costs, it’s a clear case of ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’. Honda say they have made this new model more refined, with a suspension that isn’t as racy the previous model, yet it’s somehow firmer and unfortunately not refined in the slightest.
This criticism aside, the new Type R has every reason to feel confident in an already crowded market place most notably featuring the Ford Focus ST, Renault Clio 197 and Volkswagen Golf GTi.
Brand loyalty counts for a lot and when the last model sold 2333% more than anticipated, the fluff brigade are surely going to be reaching for the oxygen and their cash too.

Last week, Dani Solà (Spanish, 32 years old, J-WRC Champion in 2002) and Luca Betti (Italian, 28 years old, 2nd in the last Montecarlo rally between the J-WRC cars) got their first approach with the new car. They both are satisfied with the Civic which has proved to be ready to battle with the most competitive rally cars.
Luca Betti explained that the car has really improved and they are at the point where they have eliminated all little problems of youth and can therefore focus on set-up enhancement. Betti added that they need to be comfortable with the car to achieve the necessary confidence with it.
Meanwhile, Dani Solà, who will be supported in this program by Honda Spain, was also impressed by the car and said that the base has improved. However, the Spanish diver added that it is still young and there are still other aspects to be improved.
Within the new Group R rules, the Civic Type R has been evolved but completed the existing Group A class. Coming in 2008, the Group R is targeted at production-based two-wheel drive cars with a 2.0 liter engine. This inexpensive but competitive class has been designed as a prototype for future rallying by the sport’s governing body, the FIA.
The demands of Belgium, however, are limited. With several long straights and tight corners, the asphalt roads are frequently slippery due to the weather. Majority of the roads are flanked by deep throw outs, making even the smallest mistakes result to an accident.
Honda Motor Europe’s Motorsport Manager William De Braekeleer said that at the best possible way, they hope to showcase the Civic Type R in Belgium. And so far, according to him, the potential has been extremely intimidating that their aim now is to pursue their continuously increasing learning in order to provide their customers with the best possible package to live out their passion with a high level of pleasure.

Since we’ve started running the PPC campaign, are we getting more traffic from branded terms? Shut down the branded terms immediately and compare your results without pay per click. If your conversions stay the same, I’m sorry to tell you that your PPC campaign has been ruining the ROI of every one of your conversions.Give a good hard look at your PPC campaigns folks, it can be easy to inflate a campaign but to what end? Trying to get a positive ROI on a campaign just for the sake of having a PPC campaign is bad marketing. If SEO has your branded terms handled, step back, and start re-thinking how paid search can fit into your marketing plan (or if it has to at all).

The Honda Racing F1 Team is looking forward to their second home race of the season with the 2007 Japanese Grand Prix at the Fuji International Speedway, Round 15 of the FIA Formula One World Championship. The event will mark the team’s welcome return to Japan next week.
The Honda team has always managed to perform well in every Japanese Grand Prix. Button said, “The Japanese Grand Prix is always a very special weekend for the whole Honda Racing F1 Team as it is one of our two home races of the year. I have had fantastic support as a Honda driver at the Honda-owned Suzuka circuit in the past few years and the Japanese fans always create such a special atmosphere over the race weekend.”
However, this year would be more challenging as the race moved from its traditional Honda-owned home of Suzuka towards the newly re-opened Fuji International Speedway. Button said, “This year will be a new challenge for both myself and the team as the race returns to the Fuji International Speedway.”
While Barrichello said, “I am really looking forward to returning to Japan in my second year with Honda for our home race. The Japanese Grand Prix has always been a favourite of mine and the Suzuka circuit holds some very special memories as I won there from pole position in 2003. My experience last year driving with Honda for the first time was fantastic. The fans are so enthusiastic and really supported us throughout the weekend.”
Before moving to Fuji, the Honda Racing F1 Team is planning to stop in Odaiba. They would be attending to the annual Tokyo Motorsports Festival. In the event, Jenson Button and James Rossiter will demonstrate the thrills of Formula One to a crowd of fans through running the RA107 car in the streets of the city. Button said, “On the Monday before the race, I will be taking part in the Tokyo Motorsports Festival once again. This is a fantastic event and I had a great time last year driving our F1 car right in the heart of Tokyo in front of all the Honda fans so I am really looking forward to arriving in Japan this weekend and getting the fun started.”
According to Senior Technical Director Shuhei Nakamoto, “This will be the first time that Formula One has visited the new Fuji International Speedway.” In relation to that, they opt to give importance with the little time left for them to practice, as he added, “We have limited date on the circuit which makes the practice sessions on Friday and Saturday even more important.” While Barrichello said, “This year Formula One is returning to the Fuji International Speedyway for the first time since 1977. I last raced at Fuji in 1991 in Formula 3 but the circuit has been totally modernized since those days. It will be very exciting to race on the new layout and I am sure that the organizers will have done an excellent job with improving the existing circuit.”
Nakamoto also said, “The downforce levels required will be very similar to the last race at Spa-Francorchamps so we are prepared for a challenging weekend. Following the three-day test in Jerez this week, we have confirmed our car set-up and earo package for the race. We would like to put on the best possible performance for the Honda fans at our home race in Japan and achieve a satisfactory result,” holding on with the belief that their team have enough experience and preparation to get their race car, with sophisticated Honda spoiler, through the redesigned Fuji International Speedway circuit and obtain good results.
“The Fuji circuit is an unknown quantity so I will be studying the circuit layout with our engineers in advance of the race but we will only find out its true characteristics during our track walk on Thursday and the first few laps of practice on Friday. The re-designed circuit is another Herman Tilke special, and after the fantastic job that he did with Istanbul Park, it will be interesting to see how this circuit matches up. There is a long 1.5km start-finish straight which should allow for some overtaking combined with some exciting looking twists and turns,” Button said.
Button, together with Barrichello, is expected to give the best performance in the race despite having a quite crucial race this year. He said, “We are the first to admit that Honda have had a tough season this year, however we approach the final races of the season with continued motivation and will not stop pushing to take the maximum possible performance for the thousands of Honda fans who will be cheering us on from the stands.” And, Barrichello said, “Our car and performance this year has not been at the level we hoped for at the beginning of the season, however a lot of hard work is still going on back at the factory to improve our situation. We will all keep working very hard right to the end of the season and I hope to see further small improvements in our performance which will help us this season and in 2008.”

Honda Civic Type R – oxygen not supplied
The hatchback brings with it two main demographics that tend to part with their cash more than anyone else in society – the very young and the very old. For the old, a shiny hatchback represents an economical, safe and pleasant way to get to and from the shops, bingo and church. The Honda Civic range has been king of the grey-haired brigade for decades and brings with it an unassuming, sensible and reliable transport solution for getting from A to B.
For young people – mostly males with fluff stuck to their upper lip, the Honda Civic and it’s hatchback rivals represent the cheapest way of getting a car, insuring it and then thrashing it to within an inch of it’s life every night in a McDonalds car park. The fun doesn’t stop there either. Since the initial conception of Max Power magazine in the early nineties, car modification has gone through the roof. Even Hollywood has got in on the act with the Fast and the Furious trilogy seeing more neon lights in cinema car parks than an Ibiza club.
Much like the punk movement, it’s the DIY aesthetic of personalising your car from a million different options and standing out from the crowd that appeals. With its bullet proof reliability and extensive catalogue of performance and styling parts, the Honda Civic has simultaneously become the favoured choice at both ends of the circle of life – but for very different reasons.
Honda aren’t stupid and having seen the mass market appeal for ‘hot hatches’ thought they’d better produce one for the British market – and thus was born the Civic Type R in 2001. Top lip fluff brigade were beside themselves with excitement. Grey haired brigade were happy with the standard issue model. Either way, Honda was onto a winner with a huge percentage of the population.
The Type R was an exceptional car too, with a 0-60mph time of 6.6 seconds and the ever-eager VTEC engine revving to 8,250rpm. Stylistically it wasn’t too different from the standard model, with 17 inch alloy wheels and a spoiler adorning the rear the main differences. It was on the road that the little Honda Civic really delighted with the Japanese firm clearly utilising their Formula One programme for the good of their hot hatch. The Civic Type R became the biggest selling performance hatchback in the noughties – with over 35,000 units sold – so it was no surprise at the 2006 British Motor Show when everyone’s legs turned to jelly when they clasped eyes on the new one.
The new Civic is all triangles and space-age – a highly risky direction change for a company happily catering for such a diverse range of customers. However Honda have always wanted to shed their image of being an old-persons car maker and the newest Civic is a styling exercise with the sole intention of keeping its young fan base and stealing the middle aged away from their Volkswagen Golfs. The Type R for the record didn’t just turn my legs to jelly at the motor show – I needed a crash team and some oxygen.
The production model is only a tad watered down from the final concept in 2006, with the body kit identical. That means that unlike the previous Civic Type R, you don’t need to check the badge to know this isn’t the base model. I don’t know where to start to be honest – seeing one will say everything I need to, as you’ll either love it or hate it. It looks as though a spaceship has crashed into the Pyramids and driven off – but for me, it works.
Crucially Honda haven’t messed with the engine, so the new Type R retains the 2.0 litre, 197bhp engine from its predecessor. Although this will of course save on Honda’s design costs, it’s a clear case of ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’. Honda say they have made this new model more refined, with a suspension that isn’t as racy the previous model, yet it’s somehow firmer and unfortunately not refined in the slightest. This criticism aside, the new Type R has every reason to feel confident in an already crowded market place most notably featuring the Ford Focus ST, Renault Clio 197 and Volkswagen Golf GTi.
Brand loyalty counts for a lot and when the last model sold 2333% more than anticipated, the fluff brigade are surely going to be reaching for the oxygen and their cash too.
