This Honda FN2 was fully tuned by SPOON SPORTS to beat stock FD2 (JDM Civic TypeR), and has actually done it as seen on latest HotVersion series. SPOON FN2 is FAST!!! The partial silver-colored exterior was really cool, matching quite well with Championship White body. And the fake carbon fiber decal on the roof was natural enough to look real. I wanted to hear the exhaust, but it was too loud to rev it in the middle of residential area. I’ll try to find other chances for this. After Honda Racing F1 Team’s first point finish at the French Grand Prix, the team is looking to extend their good performance at the upcoming Silverstone race. Prior to the French Grand Prix, Honda’s performance has been disappointing. After seven races, they have not scored a point. At Magny-Cours though, Jenson Button finished eighth to take home a single point.

From that, Honda is aiming to go into the British Grand Prix this Sunday with a bit of momentum on their side. The team’s senior technical director Shuhei Nakamoto pointed out that the point finish at Magny-Cours gave them confidence going into the next race at Silverstone.

“The race in Magny-Cours last weekend marked a more positive step in the season for the Honda Racing F1 Team,” said Nakamoto. “Following much hard work back at the factory and in testing, we achieved our first point of the season. Jenson drove a good race, the pace of the car was very encouraging and our strategy paid off. We can now go to our first home race of the season at Silverstone with more confidence in our ability to challenge for points finishes this weekend and at future races.’

The ninth race of the season will take place at the famed Silverstone Circuit. The circuit first hosted the British Grand Prix in 1948 and has seen some of the most exciting races in the history of the sport.

Honda’s Rubens Barrichello said that he is comfortable racing in Silverstone. The Brazilian Formula One driver won at Silverstone in 2003 when he was still with Scuderia Ferrari.

“It will always be one of my favorite tracks,” said Barrichello. “It’s a high-speed circuit with some very challenging corners and one that I still really enjoy driving. I have some very special memories, not least of winning.”

The veteran driver said that Honda will be busy this weekend preparing for the race in the United Kingdom. “It will be a busy weekend for us but an important one, so we will be giving it everything we can right now. We can definitely say that the performance of the car has improved which is encouraging. There is always a lot of expectation on our shoulders competing at Silverstone and although we don’t have the car to fight at the front, I think we can have a good race and aim for the points.”

Driving the team’s RA107 with engine provided by Honda, the same manufacturers of Honda Civic headlight bulbs, Barrichello is looking to bounce back after his teammate Button upstaged him at the French Grand Prix.

Meanwhile, Jenson Button said that no whether their car is performing well or not, he will do his best. “It’s been a difficult season for me but that does not change the way I think about the sport, about where I want to be and what I want to achieve,’ said Button. “If I didn’t continue to push hard every race I might as well give up. You have to give everything, whether the car is good or bad.”

Honda is currently ninth in the constructor’s championship standing with a single point to their credit after eight races so far. The team will have to contend with the dominant McLaren and the resurging Ferrari. Last year’s winner of the British Grand Prix, Alonso will be looking to take a win at the race after a disappointing finish in France.

Nick Fry, the Chief Executive Officer and Team Principal of the Formula One constructor of Honda, has promised Honda’s RA107 will be on a par with the Ferraris and McLarens before the end of this season.

Honda entered this year’s Championship with a great deal of promise following on from Jenson Button’s breakthrough victory in Hungarian GP of the last season. The Brackley squad, however, has failed to live up to the build up.

Eight races were struggled by the team to even score their first point of the Championship – came courtesy of Button’s eighth placed finish in the French GP in Sunday.

Nonetheless, the 50-year old British CEO believes that point is just the beginning of large things to come for Honda. The boss even went as far as to guarantee that Honda’s RA107 will be competing with the Ferraris and McLarens before this season is over.

Fry said when they realized at the start of the year the car was not what they wanted at all, so they have had to make a lot of revisions in a very short span of time. He explains they have had to take a few risks by doing things which they thought were right, but without that much knowledge behind it.

Now, the team is back on more of a level-playing field and they hope to move forward from here because they believe, as the saying goes “one swallow doesn’t make a summer”, one point does not make for them either. Fry continued that they are obviously still a long, long way off beating a Ferrari or a McLaren, which is clearly where they want to be by the end of the season, and certainly going into next year.

But he begs people should not always expect them to go from one point to the front of the grid immediately because that is totally not possible.

The team principal was also full of praise for Button following his first point-scoring result of the season. He acknowledges the fact that he admires Jenson’s performance as different races passes by. Fry said it is relatively easy to be optimistic when you have a good car and you are doing well, but Jenson really has matured with his professionalism and fighting spirit. Fry added Jenson tries every bit as hard in fighting for 12th place on the grid as he does for second or third. He further said that he have known Jason for years and knows that the racer has been better than the year before every year.

The Honda boss added also said that he does not see any reason why Jenson cannot be competing with Lewis if they give Jenson the equipment.

This week I test drove the Vauxhall Astra VXR and was asked whether I was the type of person who’d buy this type of car – a powerhouse of a hatchback. “Well am I?” I thought, so here’s my CV. I don’t profess to be many things but I like to think of myself as a nice guy, who’s hard-working, law abiding, music loving, car worshipping and sport mad. I also like to advertise myself as somewhat of a film expert and enjoy dropping into conversation with like-minded people the Spanish language film I saw last night or what actually happened in The Matrix. Until this week however there was a gaping hole in my film repertoire that ensured that my cinematic ramblings were denounced quicker than Usain Bolt running the 100 metres – I had never seen The Usual Suspects.

Having been garnered with more stars in reviews than the night sky above me, it seemed odd that I’d never taken time out to watch it. The content seemed up my street too, with the film being billed at the time of release as ‘the Reservoir Dogs of 1995′, so plenty of guns, violence, swearing and death then – not Toy Story in other words. So I finally settled down 13 years later than intended and can report that if I had any clout as a film critic there would be another maximum five stars winging their way to Bryan Singer’s masterpiece.

The premise is far from simple, but involves five criminals being brought together by the police in unusual circumstances and being blamed for a lorry hijack they (in all probability) didn’t commit. Whilst biding their time before release, they decide to wreak revenge on the police and make a tidy profit whilst doing so. Throughout the film a mystical master criminal called Keyser Soze is mentioned and via a serious of flashbacks and narration from one of the five suspects the story unravels, culminating in a bloody finale aboard a container ship and a twist so implausible that it contorts your brain into believing it’s possible – who is Keyser Soze? The beauty of the storytelling is that you know there will be a twist but cannot pinpoint how or who will be involved.

It was a similar scenario I found myself in whilst driving the Astra VXR. Obviously gunfire and hijacking aren’t part of the Vauxhall lifestyle but in many ways, the Astra VXR is part of the automotive equivalent of The Usual Suspects. The world of the hot hatchback has always been comprised of familiar faces that have been slugging it out over many years. The current crop includes the main five suspects: Vauxhall Astra VXR, Honda Civic Type R, Ford Focus ST, Volkswagen Golf GTi and RenaultSport Megane.

It’s a formidable line-up worthy of the silver screen but seeing as I had the keys to the Astra, let me throw some facts and figures at you – starting with the styling. Aggressive doesn’t begin to do the Astra justice – even Vauxhall’s advertising slogan of ‘GTi – RIP’ had an air of hooligan about it. Huge alloy wheels adorn the gaps in the wide and low-slung body kit, with a roof mounted spoiler and mesh front grill completing the look. It’s a bold statement which gives the impression the car is travelling at serious speed even when parked at the kerb.

When the 2.0 litre turbo-charged engine is awoken it does happily propel you to speeds that befit its looks. Developing 240bhp, the Astra VXR covers the 0-60mph dash in a mere 6.2 seconds but more importantly for a front wheel drive car, develops no discernible torque steer thanks to more processing power than a string of computer shops. Vauxhall honed the Astra’s chassis at the fabled Nurburgring racing circuit in Germany and it shows. Despite the twisty roads and sheep that kept darting out in front of me, the Astra avoided becoming an abattoir on wheels thanks to responsive handling and the aggressive front end scaring them off.

My only concern is that to develop 43bhp more than the Volkswagen Golf GTi and Honda Civic Type R, Vauxhall have bolted on a turbo that with all the will in the world means one thing – lag. Often I found myself in the overtaking position only for all that power to have a sit down, make a cup of tea and then decide to get to work. There were also occasions when having zoomed past the car on my inside that the engine wanted to have another brew before stopping the flow of power. That said 43bhp is one heck of an advantage over the rivals so it’s worth waiting for.

The Astra VXR is also priced to be cheaper than the Golf, Megane and Focus ST and comparable with the Civic Type R despite this extra grunt and sublime handling. So am I the type of person to buy a Vauxhall Astra VXR? Well unless there’s a massive twist in this tale then the answer would be “Yes please”.

We all know, in basic terms what a hybrid is all about and what some of the advantages are, but do we really know how they work and why they work? Let’s take a closer look at that question starting with Honda’s Civic hybrid as an example. To make it simple we have a vehicle with a gasoline powered engine much like any other. Added to that, is an auxiliary electric motor that functions to keep the gasoline motor working at a minimum. The electric motor needs some type of power supply to make it function, enter the hybrid system battery which is in addition to the normal 12 volt vehicle battery. Now, we have all the basic components covered so lets get a little deeper into how all these parts work in harmony to power your hybrid vehicle.

We have to think about how and when the IMA system in a Civic hybrid is functioning. There are 2 modes that are used when you’re in the car. Either the System is in charge mode working to recharge the hybrid system battery or it is in assist mode where the electric motor is being used to power the vehicle.

How does it work? “Assist”

Now, jump in your hybrid and let’s take a look at how things get going. Turning the key to start your Civic hybrid is about the only step that would be comparable to a conventional car. Instead of a starter, your Civic uses the electric motor that is positioned between the gasoline engine and the transmission to get things turning. Now your up and running and heading for the grocery store, your watching that fancy little gauge that shows whether the car is charging or assisting and how much. Your climbing that hill and notice it indicates full assist, good thing since that little gas motor doesn’t really like accelerating too quickly on its own.

How does it work? “Charge”

Well, lets pretend that hill was really long and now you’ve spent a good amount of the energy stored in the hybrid system battery. On the way down your gauge shows full charge mode because the car is using something called regenerative braking to charge the battery back up again for the next hill. Basically, instead of throwing away all the energy that’s lost while decelerating or braking, we use regenerative braking to recapture and store some of that energy for when we need that assist function again.

How does it work? “Autostop”

When we come up to a stoplight right before the grocery store, it turns red and we stop. When we stop a Civic hybrid it goes into autostop mode, where the gasoline engine shuts down completely. The unique thing about hybrids is some of your traditional features are electric now instead of mechanical. So, when your sitting at the red light, your air conditioning, audio system, and other comforts continue to work as they would if you were idling there burning gas in a conventional vehicle. Now, when the light turns green and we are off to the races again, you step on the gas peddle and seamlessly the gasoline engine is back up and running. Remember, there is not a normal starter, so it functions just like when you go to start your hybrid.

So what do i get out of it? “Advantages”

With all this back and forth between charging and assisting we find our savings on fuel. We get the advantage of using wasted energy to charge our battery instead of having to plug into an outlet every night. We get the convenience of filling up at normal gas stations, but less often. The biggest advantage when talking about hybrids is, you can walk out to your driveway, get in your car, and head on down the road just as conveniently as you could in a gas only car. Nothing is drastically different from a drivers standpoint, you will not need to get used to a new routine of plugging your car in or trying to find some obscure alt-fuel station.

The Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) announced that the Repsol Honda Team will continue its successful partnership with Michelin for the next season of MotoGP. Michelin and Honda have collaborated in the esteemed motorcycle racing since 1982, during which time they have won 14 riders world championships and recorded 193 race wins.

The first race win of this longstanding alliance came in 1982 with Freddie Spencer at the Belgian Grand Prix and the most recent was Dani Pedrosa’s great victory at the Grand Prix of Valencia on Sunday.

“I’m very satisfied with this deal with Michelin because they have a great deal of experience and technical skill and I’m confident they can supply us with race-winning tyres next year. The situation this year has been complicated for many reasons, and sometimes our performance has not been up to the level we expected,” said Pedrosa. “Michelin has a long racing history with Honda and I believe this partnership can once again create the success we all want. I’m happy to show that we have full confidence in Michelin at this important time in MotoGP.”

“I’m really happy to be joining up with Michelin again next year. They were a key part in achieving my World Championship last year so they’ve got a really special place in my heart. Honda has a long history with Michelin and I think we can work hard this winter during testing and get back to winning ways in 2008. I know they’re not going to take the events of this season lightly, they want to come back strong and I’m convinced they can help us take the fight to our rivals. It won’t be easy, but Michelin is a great company,” added Nicky Hayden of Repsol Honda.

After a tough 2007 MotoGP season, both Honda and Michelin are determined that this new agreement will form the foundation of further success. The team will continue enhancing Honda racing parts and Michelin will stay as a reliable ally.

Frederic Henry-Biabaud, the director of Michelin Group Motorsport Division, has this to say: “We at Michelin are honoured and proud to continue this very successful partnership with Repsol Honda, with whom we have won eight world championships since 1995. And we are committed to achieving victory in 2008 through very close, intense and technological collaboration.”

“Honda believes MotoGP is an arena for supreme competition and also the place where ultimate collaboration between people and technology can be achieved. We believe we must have mutual respect in this world of supremacy in order to retain our dignity and to succeed. This year the Repsol Honda Team and Michelin have been defeated. So now we must strive to return to the winner’s circle where we belong. We believe next year is the year we will do this. We are determined to fight back with all our might and dignity in order to win back the title,” concluded HRC President Masumi Hamane.

Honda Motor Corp., the world’s second largest Japanese automobile and motorcycle manufacturer, presents the new Honda Civic Type-R. The Type-R philosophy will be shaking the European-dominated “hot hatch” sector, as the company continues to provide more than just cars loaded with quality parts like the Acura CL belts. The sporty concept targets to attract the young and active crowd.

The new Honda Civic Type-R looks far from its Civic four-door siblings. It comes with a bonnet line that flows from the steep sloping front window. There is also a rounded backside that has been adorned with a rear boot fin. The clean lines were designed to help the wind dynamics of the vehicle, though it may hamper the driver’s rear vision.

The Type-R philosophy was mainly focused on delivering a driving experience comparable with ones in racing cars. It is intends to make the driver part of the machine through providing high levels of feedback from the vehicle, including sound, steering response and handling.

Aside from being fast, Type-R vehicles offer excellent performance in gear changing, braking, steering and handling. They were designed to provide authentic driving experience, which won’t be affected by driving assisting systems or other features like the sound proofing that could diminish the driving involvement. For such reason, the Type-R Honda will not be sustained with luxury equipment, such as sat-nav, hands-free telephones or leather interior. Instead, it will only get the features that will make it look and feel more like a racing car.

The new Honda Civic Type-R will be powered by a 2.0 L DOHC i-VTEC engine that has 148 kW of power and 193 Nm of torque.

The interior looks more like the main control room of a spaceship. The double layered dashboard comes with strategically placed red illuminated dials that sweeps around either side of the steering wheel. There are also red start button, digital speedometer and large dial in the center with tacho on the perimeter and other meaningful info glowing red – creating a futuristic feel.

The coupe concept gets decent cabin spacing. It provides a high degree of convenience, flexibility and passenger accommodation. The Civic Type-R has been equipped with Honda’s “magic seat” system that allows the rear seats to be folded – creating a full flat rear cargo floor – eventually increasing the usable boot space from 485 liters to 1,352 liters.

Overall, the Civic Type-R is masterpiece for involvement and a win over an 8,000 r.p.m. redline. It is an impressive package loaded with character and keenly priced for ,990. Unlike most of the Honda vehicles imported to Australia, the new car will not be delivered from Thailand, but from Honda’s UK plant in Swindon.
