In the competitive world of racing motorcycles, most companies tend to bank on their racing teams to promote their street bikes. Heavy duty motorcycles with obscene amounts of power inside the chassis run across the tracks, and motorcycle racing fans find that they can own a little piece of the excitement by buying themselves civilian versions of the racers that their favorite bikers are running.

More often than not, this marketing approach has led most motorcycle manufacturing companies to come up with barely street legal specs for their civilian bikes, and the results are machines that are grossly expensive, difficult to maintain, and wind up causing accidents in the hands of bikers who don’t possess the necessary skill level to handle such high performance bikes.

Honda has taken a different approach from it’s competitors in this department, and has instead taken a people-friendly focus in their motorcycles. Their teams still continue to run – and win a lot – in motor sports events, but their civilian bikes aren’t simply powered-down versions of their racers. They customize their civilian bike designs with the average person in mind.

One of the things that shows this approach is the price of a Honda motorcycle. Their price ranges both for the bikes and parts are considerably more affordable for people who just might want to ride a fast bike for fun without the need to cleave along the highway like a bullet.

Asian brands have been taking over the U.S. auto market and the pack is led by Toyota. But another brand from the Orient is already enjoying success in the U.S. and this brand is Honda – Japan’s second largest car manufacturer.

Recently, the company has expanded their investment in the United States by starting the process of putting up another assembly plant in Indiana at a groundbreaking ceremony. The new plant embodies the 0 million investment by Honda which will provide thousands of jobs for Americans in the Indiana area.

In connection with the groundbreaking ceremony, Honda announced that the plant will be producing Honda Civic sedans for the 2009 model year when it starts its operations in the fall of 2008. It was also announced that the plant will be called the Honda Manufacturing of Indiana, LLC or HMIN.

The plants first president will be Yuzo Uenohara who served as the senior vice president at another Honda plant in Alabama. Uenohara will be in charge of more than 2,000 associates to be hired by the company for the plant. The plant is estimated to produce 200,000 vehicles every year upon completion. This Honda facility will address the increasing demand for Honda vehicles which are known to be fuel-efficient.

The plant is currently under construction and located on a 1,700 acre field in Decatur County, Indiana near the town of Greensburg. The area will greatly benefit from the plant since aside from the more than 2,000 associates (Honda calls its employees associates) that will be directly hired by the company, the plant will also generate hundreds of jobs more.

Koichi Kondo, the President and Chief Executive Officer of American Honda Motor Co., has this to say about the new plant: “In Indiana we will create an efficient and flexible manufacturing environment that is a great place for everyone to work. In this way, we are breaking ground for more than an auto plant. We are breaking new ground in our relationship with the people of Indiana and our customers in America.”

This statement seems aimed at the current heat that Asian brands are taking from the Big Three car manufacturers based in the U.S. namely General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler.

The new facility will become the seventh auto plant of Honda located in North America. It will increase the production output of American Honda from 1.4 million units per year to 1.6 million. The number of associates in the United States will also increase to a total of more than 37,000. This shows that Honda is providing a lot of jobs for Americans amid the claim that Asian brands are negatively affecting the economy of the country.

The investment of Honda in the continent will reach billion with the construction of the new plant. The plant will be performing the whole nine yards in the assembly process of automobiles including stamping, welding, painting, plastic injection molding, sub-assembly, and final assembly.

The Honda Civic sedans to be produced at the Indian plant will be equipped with engines produced by their engine plant in Anna, Ohio. Other parts like Honda cold air intake components will come from the more than 600 North American suppliers which have partnered with Honda.

Honda Racing Formula One Team’s pair of Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello posted good performances at the practice session held in preparation for the upcoming United States Grand Prix. The two Formula One finished the afternoon practice session within the top ten.

The United States Grand Prix is the seventh race of the current Formula One season. The second race in North America, it will be held at the famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Practice sessions before the race took place at the said circuit. Raceday is scheduled this Sunday.

During the practice sessions, Formula One teams have stepped up their game and looks to be closing the gap between them and frontrunners McLaren and Ferrari.

Jenson Button, the number one driver for Honda, posted the 18th fastest lap time during the first practice session. He then performed better at the second practice session to set the ninth fastest lap time of 1 minute and 13.144 seconds.

“It has been a fairly routine Friday for us really,” says the English Formula One driver. “We achieved a good number of laps between Rubens and myself so we have plenty of information to work with tonight. I had some issues in the morning and early afternoon with understeer at certain corners but we were able to work through this and pick up some good front and rear grip by the end of the session. A good start.”

Button currently has no points to his credit after six races. He was forced to retire his Formula One car at the Bahrain and Canadian Grands Prix.

Button’s teammate Rubens Barrichello on the other hand posted the ninth fastest lap in the first practice session. On the second practice session, he was bested by Button. He finished tenth after the second practice session on board his RA107 which no Accord with a Honda cold air intake system can overtake.

“We have completed a lot of hard work today but we were able to achieve a lot, particularly in the afternoon session,” says the Brazilian Formula One driver who is yet to grab a point this season. Like BMW Sauber’s Nick Heidfeld, he also complained about his car’s balance.

“I struggled with the balance of the car during this morning’s practice, but this afternoon we made some improvements during the course of the session which leaves us with a lot of good data to be working with this evening. Generally a good foundation from which to move forward this weekend,” he claims.

The Brazilian driver famous for his stint with Ferrari alongside seven-time champion Michael Schumacher is yet to place higher than tenth place in any race this season. His highest finish this season came at the Spanish and Monaco Grands Prix.

McLaren continues its dominance when two-time defending champion Fernando Alonso recorded the fastest lap times in both practice sessions. The Spaniard currently trails his teammate Lewis Hamilton in the driver’s championship standings. Hamilton also showed a good performance at the two practice sessions. The young British driver who leads all drivers in points posted the third fastest lap time during the first practice session. On the second free practice session, the rookie sensation posted the second fastest lap time behind his teammate.

Going into the United States Grand Prix, Honda is ranked tenth with no points yet to their credit. The duo of Button and Barrichello though are hoping to take the team’s first point/s at the United States Grand Prix.

These are Feel’s modded FG2 Civic Si and FD2 Civic Type R. Drift racers Orido Manabu and Taniguchi Nobuteru drive both cars and give their impressions of their differences. I slapped on the translations myself, so they’re not pro or anything. The cars have modded suspension, upgraded pads, upgraded titanium (half-titanium on Si) mufflers, but no engine mods. CTR has more mods, including an upgraded ECU, SS brake lines and clutch lines.

It can be remembered that Honda has announced at the beginning of last year that they would be updating their best-selling hot hatch and since then the speed boys have been waiting in anticipation.

And after a seemingly endless run of concepts the wait is finally over, the Type R is finally here and its what the speed boys have hoped it will be—a full-on, flame snorting, Red Bull slurping motor that possess the ground clearance of a Hoover and handling that feels like an adult-sized Scalextric car.

The Type R arrived with all it glinting alloys, flouncing side skirts and a high-revving 235kph 2-liter i-VTEC engine. This car is not for the faint-hearted but for those who prefer to explore their less cautious side. The Type R is considered to be a humdrum Honda Civic which according to observers is quite a turnaround for Honda.

And speaking of Honda Civic, it has been in continuous production for 35 years which is the second longest coming from a Japanese automaker with Toyota Corolla in first place being manufactured four year longer than the Civic.

In the past Honda Civic has gained a reputation as a quietly chivalrous and reliable mode of transport and such reputation is being carried until today by presently manufactured Honda Civics.

There are already a total of eight Civic makeovers and if in the past there was only sense, the new Civics today exudes sensation. The new Type R for instance features a kind of extreme styling that would make angina patients to reach for their pills.

Honda’s Type R has swollen with plastic bulges with weird angular shapes which gives the impression of a car-sized espresso machine designed by someone with deep dislike to curves. Everything on the Type R from its triangular exhaust pipes and isosceles lamps, to the honeycomb grille, and arrow-point door handles that are sharp and pointy screams uniqueness.

The arrival of the high-performance Type R variant, Honda has given its customers with a kind of car with the looks that reflects its performance.

Inside the Type R is all about driving experience. The seats are black racing-style buckets with red stitching. The red stitching extends to the steering wheel and gear stick. This Concept vehicle displays a unique combination of the latest hybrid technology fused with Honda’s fun-to-drive sports car characteristics.

Still part of the Environment theme is Honda’s next-generation clean diesel engine, the production Civic Hybrid, and the FCX Concept equipped with its fully-functional fuel cell technology which has previously made its debut at the Gotland Ring Sweden just this year.

For the Sports theme, Honda has prepared its current F1 racing car, the RA107 piloted by Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello, Civic Type R, and the Honda S2000 production models. Strong emphasis will also be given to the company’s motorsport heritage which will be represented by the automaker’s latest F1 car and of course Honda’s first race car, the 1967 RA300.

The motorcycle display will showcase Honda’s major contribution in competitions such as this year’s MotoGP series in which its Repsol Honda RC122V and HM plant Honda CBR1000RR have participated.

The lineup of motorcycles to be displayed at Honda’s stand will include the first ever production motorcycle airbag system, which is already available on the new Gold Wing. ASIMO, the humanoid robot will also be there to welcome stand visitors. Also parts of the display are the Honda solar panels and Honda Jet.
