Honda is now very pressured about the four races which will come in five weeks from now. In the press release, the team said that if it was not tough before, now it is. They consider the races as on their maximum intense level that they have no time to be happy-go-lucky since it will begin early July with just one week off between the events in the Netherlands and in Germany.

This makes the situation difficult for both riders and teams. The drivers’ race fitness is now becoming a big issue just like machine development. The up coming events give Honda team no ample time to fine tune bikes between races for the specific demands of each Grand event. The team considers Mugello as a demanding track like any other.

A high-speed carousel of a track is found just 30km north east of Florence Mugello. It has rolling, really bendy turns and a 215mph 1141m main straight. For 2007, the track has been modified. It added 20,000 capacities with new naturally craved grandstands at the turns in Scarperia and Correntado. A 280m of run-off at Arrabbiata One and Two is also added.

Nicky Hayden, last year, ranked third after winner Valentino Rossi (Yamaha) and second-placer Loris Capirossi (Ducati). And this year, Casey Stoner (Ducati) is leading the MotoGP World Championship with 102 points while Rossi currently has 81. So fans will definitely cheer as loud as they could.

Nonetheless, Honda is optimistic that its Italian Marco Melandri (Gresini Honda

RC212V) will find form on his 800cc machine. Currently, Melandri is overall fourth and just one point behind third placer Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda RC212V).

Melandri said it is nice to be heading to his home race. According to him this was the result of their entire team’s hard work. He added that one’s home grand championship is always both exciting and demanding. He admits that Mugello is one of the most technical circuits on the series of events. But the mere fact that he will be racing in front of his fellowmen makes him proud.

Pedrosa, a second timer in the MotoGP, commented that Mugello is has always been a challenging track and it will be exciting to find out how the technical circuit feels on the new 800s. He added that maximum speed will be a key factor again. Based on the tests of the other teams, racers on the straight road here need to be fast.

Teammate Hayden said that one cannot really imagine the intensity at Mugello until you experience it and he is hoping to get back. One exciting feature of the track he pointed out is the many fast changes of direction which are crucial to a good lap. He added that the ground is starting to get a bit worn and dumpy so they would have their bikes set up.

Shinya Nakano (Konica Minolta Honda RC212V) recalled his 2004 crash in Mugello. According to him, it happened down the very fast start and finish straight. He felt scared upon recalling it but he added that the he fears wears off as he returns to the track with every thing new – team, bike, and tires.

Their team knows their flaw this year. He cannot carry his desired corner speed but Nakano believes they can do better this time.

Carlos Checa (LCR Honda RC212V) is also confident on this race. He believes that their team is now very competitive but still has no enough power. But he added that Michelin is giving them a very good support and they tested different rear tires in France. After this race comes another one in Catalunya and he is excited regarding that matter on his home race.

Meanwhile, Andrea Dovizioso (Scot Honda RS250RW) in the 250cc is hoping that the support of his home crowd can affect his chasing Jorge Lorenzo (Aprilia), the series point leader. Divizioso is currently at 88 while Lorenzo has 120 points. Divizioso said he likes Mugello because the amazing race here is so fast. Though he has not yet won here, he is hoping to win this time. He said he will fight at the highest level possible.

Injured Yuki Takahashi (Scot Honda RS250RW) is currently mending and said he immediately started rehab. His wrist still hurts but the operation was successful. The team will decide whether or not he will be in the race.

Lukas Pesek (Derbi) and Gabor Talmacsi (Aprilia) currently preserves their posts in the 125cc. These experienced racers are expected to be defeated by Honda’s youngster Bradley Smith (Repsol Honda RS125R) after a third place in France.

Honda Racing Formula One Team was looking to take their first point/s of the season going into Sunday’s United States Grand Prix. But after a poor showing at the race held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, it looks as if Honda would have to wait for the next race to break into the scoring column.

Drivers Rubens Barrichello and Jenson Button seemed to have switched places after the Canadian Grand Prix. At the race held at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Barrichello only managed to take the twelfth spot while Button was forced to retire. At the United States Grand Prix, it was Button who finished twelfth and Barrichello was forced to retire.

Barrichello was involved in an accident which retired not only him but Toyota’s Ralf Schumacher and Red Bull’s David Coulthard as well. It can be remembered that these three have been the leading contenders to Michael Schumacher’s dominance in the early 2000s. The incident happened only on the opening lap and Jenson Button and Nico Rosberg escaped the collision.

While Button may have avoided the crash which might have forced him to retire, he only managed a twelfth place finish. While the British Button said that the race was fun, he is disappointed with the result.

“It was a fun race today but ultimately another disappointing afternoon for us,” he said. “At the start I was on the outside and I was hit by Rubens, which damaged the front of my car along with the bodywork. That forced me across the grass and left me almost at the back of the field which was disappointing. Still it was a fun race with some good overtaking until my pit stop, when we had a problem with the fuel rig which cost me time and then I had about 15kg too much fuel in the car which compromised the rest of the race. We were just off the pace again and we now have a lot of work to do next week in Jerez to move our performance on.”

Meanwhile, Barrichello is also looking forward to Jerez and attributed the accident to bad luck. “I think it was just an unlucky first corner racing incident today. I tried to avoid a spinning Ralf and unfortunately hit two cars, one of which was Jenson. The contact broke my front suspension and that was it for me today. Sadly Jenson’s car was damaged as well. We have an important test next week in Jerez, so the team just has to look forward now and focus on improving our performance for the rest of the season,” he shares.

The United States Grand Prix was won by the rookie sensation Lewis Hamilton who now leads the driver’s championship standings with 58 points to his credit. His teammate Fernando Alonso took the second spot as McLaren dominates the early going of the 2007 Formula One season. It seems that even road bound McLarens equipped with Kleen wheels will barely catch up with Hamilton and Alonso. Felipe Massa of Ferrari took the third place just ahead of teammate Kimi Raikkonen on fourth. McLaren now has 106 points in the constructor’s championship while Ferrari trails at 71.

One of the main drawbacks to buying a second-hand car is that invariably the design has already been superseded by something newer and more hyped. This screams to your neighbours and work colleagues that you can’t afford the latest and greatest offerings and whilst this is superficial and juvenile, you care what your neighbours and work colleagues think. Thankfully when buying a used Porsche from a car dealer this is never a problem.

The reason it’s not an issue is that having designed the original 911 over 40 years ago, Porsche’s design team have been eating sausages and drinking beer at their local pub. As a result, there’s been no discernable change in how the 911 has looked over the years which has meant that if you bought a used Porsche and adorned it with a personal number plate, your neighbour would have no clue as to its age.

It’s probably with good reason too that the design office has been untouched for so long. When the design team finally did leave the pub, their eyes straining at the daylight and beards dragging on the floor, they created the Cayenne which would cause a blind person to projectile vomit at the sight of it. Ugly doesn’t even begin to describe why Porsche would allow not just the production of a 4X4 but the production of such a monstrosity.

Thankfully it’s not the Cayenne but the Boxster that has become the German firm’s biggest seller to date. Unsurprisingly for a car that costs a third of a 911, it looks like a miniature version of its big brother. In fact the design team were so lazy this time around that the front end could quite easily be the rear and visa versa as they look near identical. When it was launched there were fears that buying one would advertise that you couldn’t afford a ‘proper’ Porsche like the 911.

Whilst this fact is true, the Boxster is so good to drive that any stigmas are well and truly unattached during the 0-60mph dash. A 2.7 litre version will cover the distance in 6.2 seconds which is only marginally quicker than a Honda Civic Type R. However to buy the Boxster purely on straight-line speed is to miss the point entirely. For driving pleasure the Boxster is simply fantastic. Through the twisty lanes it holds the road and rewards you with precise steering that never once feels like it’s going to put you in a hedge. On the motorway it happily takes on the role of grand tourer, with road noise kept to a minimum and cabin comfort set to ‘high’.

You can even use the word ‘practical’ to describe it, because with the engine in the middle, you have a small boot at both the front and rear of the car which adds up to a full luggage set of space. There’s a slot in the dashboard for your phone’s SIM card, so you can make calls hands free and plenty of leather to wrap you up. The roof folds away electronically and unlike most convertibles doesn’t ruin the look of the Boxster when it’s up or down.

There’s a quote in one of my favourite films of all time Lost in Translation where Bill Murray’s character finally realises what the viewer has known for some time – he’s having a midlife crisis. Scarlet Johansson’s character asks him “have you bought a Porsche yet?” “No” comes the reply “but I’m thinking about it”. Yet the Boxster is so stylish and well made that it appeals to a far broader spectrum of people than just the mid 40s crowd. The price appeals to far more people than the £80,000 upwards a 911 costs. A brand new 2.7 litre Boxster will set you back £32, 320 and with quite a number dotted around car dealers, market prices are very competitive indeed.

A very early model from 2000 will set you back £10,000 and with fantastic build quality, you are getting a mid-engined Porsche that’s as good as new for peanuts. The Boxster was re-designed and re-launched in 2005 but fear not because after a number of hours playing spot the difference, it still looks firstly like a miniature 911 and secondly just like the old Boxster. The sausages and beer must be fantastic at that pub…

As a result you can have any age of Boxster and apply the same adage to that of the 911 – pop a personalised number plate on it.

The one thing I’ve always promised myself would never occur happened last week – I became my dad. Now I love my dad and we get on brilliantly, but he does have a tendency to moan. Whether it’s being stuck in a traffic jam, the price of milk or the quality of projection at the cinema, my dad can’t resist the odd rant. Clearly then I’m my father’s son as when we attended the British Motor Show, I had a list of things to have a pop at.

Now the motor show is essentially what a used car supermarket will look like in a few years time so it’s important to gauge the quality of metal on show and pinpoint the highlights. Before I do that though, let me re-live my moan. I’m from a large town myself and am often out in a large city so a trip to London doesn’t faze me in that respect however it takes forever to get anywhere. The underground network is great – there’s always a train, always on time and always gets you to your destination. The problem is that they’re cramped, sweaty and it appears that to get from one shop to another type of retailer takes 30 minutes and 30 tube stops.

The motor show was situated alongside the river Thames, snuggled up alongside the Millennium Dome or whatever they’ve called it this week. In essence then the motor show was in the middle of nowhere. I could’ve got off a stop too early and never been seen again quite frankly. So off the train I got feeling as though I’d already done a day’s work and I was herded towards the exhibition centre. After being bombarded with dozens of flyers for all manner of goods within seconds of my arrival, I spied the entrance a mere 100 metres away and thought if I could keep my head down I’d avoid anymore trees being chopped down and handed to me.

Cunningly though the companies employed the most gorgeous girls to hand out the flyers and try as I might I couldn’t avoid sneaking a glimpse at their perfect faces. This of course involved eye contact which might as well have been a signed contract for another ten flyers in my direction. Despite these distractions I made it inside and can report that there are plenty of automotive delights on the horizon.

For a kick off, Lotus premiered their Evora or ‘first new car in 13 years’. The Evora is a 2+2 mid engined sports car aimed squarely at the Porsche Cayman. With looks to kill, a 3.5 litre V6 engine and prices starting around the £45,000 mark in the UK; their German rivals must be sweating like a turkey at Christmas.

For the Hyundai enthusiast, the Genesis had jaws dropping. It is envisaged that the orange monster on display will morph into the latest Coupe next year with the aggressive yet curvy styling remaining unaltered. The Genesis is definitely going on sale in the United States – and judging by the reaction it got in London – in the UK as well.

For the more realistic buyer two cars were the definite standouts. Firstly Ford unveiled the long awaited return of the RS badge, this time adorning the new Focus. Developing a staggering 296bhp from just 2.5 litres, the Focus RS is the company’s wildest hot hatch yet. Vauxhall offered a more modest new car in the Insignia, the replacement for the Vectra however the word ‘elegant’ just doesn’t do it justice. Aimed squarely the existing customer base, Vauxhall hope the Insignia will entice others out of their Fords and to their way of thinking. With prices set to range from £16,000 to £22,000 they are surely onto a winner.

Speaking of winners, may I be so bold to say that we as paying customers are in a very good position. You see with such an influx of new cars due imminently or in early 2009, establishments such as used car supermarkets will be flooded with the older Vectra or Ford Focus ST as people grab the new stuff. Just because a new car is out, doesn’t instantly make the old one bad – the Honda Civic Type R being one strong example. Used car supermarkets specialise in providing a wide choice of cars and the coming months should give the buyer even more variants to choose from. The upshot being that prices will tumble and you’ll end up with an exceptional car rather than a dog eared ex-commuter one as all the others have already been sold.

I really enjoyed the show and will enjoy my trip to the used car supermarket in a few months time even more. For a start I won’t need to get on the London underground.
